Labelled “Enemies Unite” – which still gives us vague worries about overloading the plot a la Spider-Man 3 – the mixture of footage we’ve seen before and some new material shows off how Peter Parker’s (Andrew Garfield) world has expanded since the first film.
He’s still happily with Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy, but now he has to deal with the job of being a superhero and maintain his more ordinary life while hiding his alter ego from Aunt May (Sally Field).
There are, of course, new threats in the shape of Jamie Foxx’s nebbish-turned-nemesis Electro, Paul Giamatti’s armoured Rhino and a new take on the Green Goblin, which is where Chris Cooper’s Norman Osborn and Dane DeHaan’s Harry Osborn come in.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has to bring in those who didn’t embrace the first film around and, being a sequel, up the ante. We’ll find out how it does when the movie arrives here on April 18.
